Further Information:
A large parasitic fungus of trees since it feeds by dissolving lignin of tree trunks and branches. Uncommon in Malta. Synonyms include Funalia gallica (Fr.) Bondartsev & Singer and Trametes hispida Bagl. Polypore fungi as called as such becasue they have numerous, tiny pores at the lower surface of their body. They can grow up to several cms long, the one photographed superates 20cm.
